The Bring New Orleans Back Commission Report

What are a few specific details of the BNOB Report that you adamantly support and a few that you are adamantly opposed to, and please give a short explanation as to why?

Jay Batt - Overall I am in favor of it, with the exception of the moratorium on permits.

I should also say that a smaller footprint isn't in the hands of the commission or anyone else, that the simple and honest answer to that is that it's inevitable, because it'll take years to create new longterm jobs and businesses, and that people can't rebuild or come home without jobs being available; that large areas of the city will undoubtedly be uninsurable until levees are built properly, that due to lost revenues and workers, city services in some areas will not be available for sometime because the city just won't be able to afford it.

Ray Landeche - I support the streamlining and consolidation of city government; toughening ethics standards for all officials especially close review of City Council appeals for certain planning issues; and world class hurricane and flood protection. All other City services will be provided with this improved leadership. I oppose a moratorium on building permits and using the power of eminent domain, unless the government is prepared to pay landowners 120% of pre-Katrina values for their homes or businesses.

David Nowak - The expansion of public transit to include a light rail system throughout the city, including the new line to west end, is something I strongly support. I believe the growth of cities follows expansions in transportation opportunities. I also like the idea of filling in the canals to create public spaces. However, I don't approve of using eminent domain to seize properties of individuals who do not want to sell their homes.

Stephen Saussy - My position is that we should focus on those areas least damaged while simultaneously rebuilding those areas that have the greatest potential of generating revenue for the City of New Orleans at this time. Not all areas should be rebuilt and we should not commit to rebuilding all areas today or in the future. New Orleans has been declining for decades and a small percentage of New Orleans has been financially supporting as a whole for too long.

Candidates Sonia Gupta, Shelly Stephenson Midura, Sal Palmisano & Tom Wagner did not provide an answer to this question.
