The Historic Lighthouse

What ideas would you support for the use of the historic and very damaged Lighthouse at the point?

Jay Batt - Pursue grant dollars from national and international entities devoted to the historic significance of lighthouses, and directly participate in fundraising events on a local and national level. One thing I'd like to see is a major musical fundraising event featuring local and national talent to both raise money on and garner more attention to this issue. I think this is very doable.

Sonia Gupta - The lighthouse should be eligible for federal funding under title 16 of the United States Code (dealing with Conservation and Preservation of Historic Landmarks). As such, a grant proposal must be submitted as soon as possible so that the city can begin restoring the building. Once restored, the lighthouse would serve well as a small museum detailing the history of the lake and its shores. This is a detailed project that will require a lot of volunteer assistance and it is something I need more time to look into. Certain of my close friends are well-acquainted with the process of garnering federal funding for restoration of historic sites and I will discuss the issue with these friends to better understand the issue. Seeing as the city has so much on its plate right now, I encourage volunteers to work together to submit a grant proposal if we are to start funding this project as soon as possible. Ray Landeche - We should rebuild the Lighthouse where it is more functional, but preserve its' historic look.

David Nowak - I am open to many different ideas. It definitely should be repaired and kept in the public domain, but as a specific purpose, I would need more neighborhood input.

Stephen Saussy - Restore it. I do not have any ideas at this time for its future use.

Candidates Shelly Stephenson Midura, Sal Palmisano & Tom Wagner did not provide an answer to this question.
