West End Restaurants

With every restaurant overlooking the Lake obliterated, what will you do to empower these restaurants and bars to come back stronger than before?

Jay Batt - As I'm sure you are aware, these locations are a combined interest of both Orleans and Jefferson parishes, and I would work with Jefferson parish officials on a package of tax credits and other incentives to spur and encourage their revival.

Sonia Gupta - I don't see those restaurants as any less worthy of attention than the other small businesses that have been wiped out across our city. As such, I will support their renewal in much the same way as I will support other businesses: the city must use a substantial portion of its federal allotment to financially assist our business owners. The Small Business Administration has failed miserably in providing assistance to our residents. As such, it is necessary that the city take the task of assisting business owners into its own hands. Once the city's financial situation has been studied in depth, the council and other government officers must work together to apportion part of that budget for small business owners, including those along the lake. Furthermore, a portion of the city's budget that has been allotted for lakefront restoration might provide more of an economic boost to these business owners.

Ray Landeche - Yes, I will support ever effort to bring back New Orleans stronger than before. We need to reclaim our rightful place as a world city.

David Nowak - Getting the marina and surrounding neighborhood rebuilt will go a long way towards bringing these places business. Providing tax incentives to businesses trying to get on their feet, along with the necessary population to work for and support these establishments and they will be up and running.

Stephen Saussy - Being a resident of Lake Vista I support developing the West End area as previously mentioned. It is paramount for New Orleans to recover so there must be economic development and we must create more family oriented environments. Create a tax free property area for a set period of time.
